Warning! 1996 vehicles are equipped with an airbag, which is located in a container in the center of the steering wheel. When working near inertial sensors, the steering column, or the instrument panel, disconnect the wires from the battery and wait at least 10 minutes.
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Remove or disable the airbag container (if provided), by contacting a car service center.
3. On cars manufactured before 1994, unscrew the 2 screws on the back of the steering wheel (photo); on cars manufactured since 1994, remove the horn panel by using a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the screws at the bottom of the spokes and remove the clamp.

4. Make sure the steering wheel is unlocked and loosen the steering wheel nut.
5. Mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the shaft (photo).

6. Press out the steering wheel by screwing the puller bolts into the special holes provided in the wheel hub on both sides of the shaft (photo). Do not remove the steering wheel by hitting the hub.
7. Before installation, lubricate the rear friction part of the steering wheel (photo).
8. Installation is performed in the reverse order. Align the marks, tighten the nut to the specified torque and check the freedom of rotation of the wheel.
