15.1 Camshaft bearing surface
2. Measure the diameters of the bearing journals and camshaft bearings, determine the clearances (photo). Compare results with normative. If at least one of the dimensions is not correct, then replace the cylinder head, camshaft, or both.
15.2 Measuring the bearing journal
3. Check camshaft runout (photo). If the runout is out of specification, replace the camshaft.
15.3 Checking the camshaft runout
4. Check the wear of the cams by measuring their size and subtracting the standard (photo). If wear exceeds norm replace a cam-shaft.
15.4 Checking the wear of the camshaft lobes
5. Check the condition of the surface of the hydraulic pushers (photo).
15.5 Checkable tappet surfaces
6. Check the diameter, tappet and mating hole in the body (photo). Replace the pusher or housing if their wear exceeds the norm.
15.6a Check the diameter of the pusher...
15.6b... and holes for the pusher in the housing
7. Check up a backlash between a pusher and an aperture which should conform to norm if both details are not worn out. It is recommended to change the pusher and housing together, based on the size of the gap.
8. Check the diameters of the roller and holes in the rocker arms, determine the gaps (photo). If the diameters and gaps differ from the norm, then replace the roller and rocker arms.
15.8a The diameter of the roller is measured at the location of the rocker
15.8b Measuring the diameter of the hole in the rocker.
