Checking the condition and replacing the fuses
Note. To replace a failed fuse, use only the one with the correct rated current (see marking on the fuse box). Installing a fuse with a higher current rating can damage the wiring and cause a fire.
Note. The fuse box for right-hand drive models is located under the right-hand corner of the instrument panel (see accompanying illustration).
1. Remove the cover from the mounting block and refer to the information on the cover to determine the location of the protection fuses for the various circuits.
2. Remove the fuse from the socket in the block and visually check its condition.
3. If there are no external signs of damage, check the fuse for continuity with an ohmmeter or test lamp.
4. Replace the failed fuse with one that matches its parameters.
5. If the circuit still does not function after replacing the fuse, or if the new fuse fails immediately, check the circuit for a short circuit or consult a qualified electrician.
Checking the condition and replacing fuse links
Note. To replace the fuse-link, use only brand-name fuse-links of the same parameters. Installing an insert designed for a higher current is fraught with damage to the wiring and fire. A new fuse-link should be installed only after the reason for the failure of the old one has been clarified and eliminated.
Note. Main fuse link (And) located on a bracket near the battery (see accompanying illustration).
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the fusible link.
3. Check the insert for external signs of overheating.
4. If the external condition is good, check the insert for continuity with an ohmmeter or test lamp.
5. Replace the failed insert with a new one, connect the battery and check the proper functioning of the corresponding circuit.
6. If the circuit still functions, or the new insert fails immediately, check the circuit for a short circuit, or seek the help of a professional electrician.
Relay location
Note. Relays for electrical systems are located at various points in the vehicle.
Relays for auxiliary accessories, ignition and heating systems are located in the fuse box. Other relays are fixed in a metal cover near the battery (see accompanying illustration).
The location of each relay is identified on the back of the cover.
The door lock timer, circuit breaker and power window relay are located behind the glove box.
