Attention:
Before removing or installing, turn the ignition key to the OFF position, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes. This is to discharge the electrical charge inside the airbag sensor auxiliary power circuit.
The seat belt pretensioner wiring connectors are yellow.
To disconnect the pretensioner connectors, remove the anchors of all seat belts.
Do not damage the seat belt pretensioner during welding, etc. In addition, make sure that the wiring does not bend or touch other parts.
When installing the seat belt pretensioner, short the connector or remove the intermediate wiring connector, see Sec. Additional passive safety system.
Do not expose the pretensioner to high temperatures (over 80°C).
Do not hit or drop the pretensioner. After a fall, the pretensioner must be replaced.
Do not allow oil, grease, water, etc. to enter. to the pretensioner.
If foreign particles get into the connector, do not remove them with a screwdriver or similar tool (to avoid damage from static electricity).
Preparatory work
Remove the upper and lower trim of the central pillars.
Attention:
- Upon completion of work, check the correct operation of the seat belt pretensioners. If a problem is found, run system diagnostics and troubleshoot.
- After the pretensioner has deployed, replace it as an assembly. For more detailed information on diagnosing the pretensioner, see Chap. Additional passive safety system.
