1. The oil seal can be replaced without removing the pan and crankshaft.
2. Remove transmission (Ch. 7).
3. Remove the clutch.
4. Remove the flywheel or torque converter drive plate.
5. Pry and carefully remove the stuffing box.
6. Check up a condition of a condensed neck of the crankshaft. Replace the crankshaft if there are deep grooves or other defects on the neck.
7. Lubricate the oil seal with engine oil, grease the working edges with molybdenum grease.
8. Put on the stuffing box and carefully press it in with hammer blows on the spacer.
9. Install flywheel or torque converter drive plate.
10. Install clutch and reinforcement plate.
11. Install transmission.
