2. Turn the crankshaft one revolution in the working direction to set the piston of the first cylinder to the top dead center position.
3. Install the base [KV113BOO40 (Mot. 251-01) or similar] with a clock indicator [KV113B0050 (Mot. 252-01) or similar] as shown in the figure so that the stylus of the indicator rests on the surface of the cylinder block. Reset the dial indicator to zero.

4. Install the dial indicator [KV113BO050 (Mot. 252-01) or similar] on the piston bottom and, turning the crankshaft from side to side, accurately determine the position of the top dead center.
Note: All measurements must be taken along the longitudinal axis of the engine to eliminate any errors due to possible piston tilt.
Caution: The dial indicator stylus must not be located in the recess in the piston bottom under the valve.
