Compression
1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and turn it off.
2. Use CONSULT to check that there are no faults.
The CONSULT tester is used to determine the engine speed and detect faults by the time work is completed, do not remove it until work is completed.
3. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
4. Remove the following parts.
Intercooler, engine cover, intercooler bracket.
5. To prevent fuel injection during measurements, remove the fuel injection pump fuse (20A) from the fuse box located on the left side of the engine compartment.

6. Remove the glow plugs from all cylinders.
Attention:
To prevent dirt and foreign particles from getting into the engine, clean the area around the spark plugs before removing them.
Be careful when removing, as you may break the spark plugs.
Be careful not to damage the spark plugs when removing them.
7. Install the adapter (special tool) into the spark plug hole and connect it to a diesel compression tester.

8. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
9. Crank the engine with the starter and record the highest reading on the compression gauge.
Compression pressure (at 200 rpm.):
- Standard: 3.1 MPa (32.0 kg/cm²)
- Limit: 2.5 MPa (25.0 kg/cm²)
- Maximum difference between cylinders: 0.49 MPa (5.0 kg/cm²)
If the engine does not develop the required speed, check the density of the electrolyte in the battery and repeat the measurement with a normally charged battery.
If the compression is below the limit, check the valve clearances and parts located around the combustion chamber (valves, valve seats, cylinder head gasket, piston rings, pistons, upper surface of the cylinder block, lower surface of the cylinder head, etc.) and then re-measure the compression.
10. Complete the work in the following sequence.
- (1) Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
- (2) Install the glow plugs and parts removed in step 4.
- (3) Install the fuel injection pump fuse (20A).
- (4) Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
- (5) Check that there are no indications on the CONSULT-II indicating any malfunction.
