1. Block the front wheels, lift the rear of the car and place it on stands. Remove the rear wheels.
2. To check the wear of the rear brake pads without removing the drum, remove the inspection hole plugs in the brake shields. Inspect the front pads using a mirror and a flashlight. Make sure that the pad thickness is not below normal by holding a rod with a diameter equal to the maximum pad thickness to the pad (see Fig. subsection 2.1).
3. If the remaining thickness of at least one pad meets or exceeds the standard value, replace all four brake pads as a set.
4. If it is difficult to check the thickness of the brake linings in this way, or if a more detailed check is required, then the brake drums can be removed and their condition checked at the same time (see subsection 11.6).
