Checking CV joints (Nissan Sunny B13)

1. If during checks (see subsection 2.3.16.2) there is a suspicion of wear of the CV joint, then proceed as follows.

2. Remove the wheel cap.

3. Remove the wheel cover and check the axle nut for tightness.

4. If there are indications that the nut is not tightened enough, remove the cotter pin, lock washer and spacer.

5. Check the tightening with a torque wrench, reinstall the removed parts and secure with a new cotter pin.

6. Perform these operations on the other wheel.

7. While driving slowly in a circle with the steering wheel turned all the way, check for metal-on-metal clicking sounds coming from the front of the car.

8. Turn the steering wheel completely in the other direction and listen again.

9. If you hear metallic clicks, the outer axle joint is worn out.

10. If you hear vibrations that increase during acceleration, then the inner joint is worn out.

11. To check for joint wear, remove and disassemble the axle shaft and check all play and the condition of the joints.

12. The hinge can only be changed as an assembly.
