Attention! When assembling, the following must be replaced: the axle shaft nut, the retaining ring of the inner CV joint, all removed cotter pins, the nuts of the lower ball joint.
1. Check the condition of the axle shaft seal, it is recommended to replace the seal.
2. Thoroughly clean the splines of the axle shaft, lubricate the splines and the lip of the oil seal.
3. Check up reliability of fastening of collars of covers.
4. Replace inner circlip (which was deformed upon removal).
5. When installing the axle shaft, be careful not to damage the oil seal.
6. When lubricating the oil seal and splines, the axle shaft can be installed without using tools.
Right axle shaft on early production cars (no intermediate support)
7. Carefully, without damaging the oil seal, insert the axle shaft into the differential.
8. Enter the splines into engagement with the splines of the drive gear, press the axle shaft so that the retaining ring enters the groove of the drive gear.
9. Make sure that the ring is in the groove by shaking the axle shaft with force.
Right axle shaft on vehicles with intermediate support
10. Carefully, without damaging the oil seal, insert the axle shaft into the differential, passing through the window in the bracket.
11. Align the bolt holes and insert the bearing housing.
12. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Left axle shaft on all vehicles except those equipped with automatic transmission
13. The procedure is the same as when installing the right axle shaft.
Left half shaft on vehicles with automatic transmission
14. The procedure is the same as when installing the right axle shaft. First, the left, then the right half shaft is installed.
All cars
15. Lubricate the outer splines of the axle shaft and insert into the hub.
16. Put on the washer and tighten the new nut.
17. Insert the ball joint into the pin and tighten the nut to the specified torque.
18. Attach the tie rod end, tighten the nut.
19. Tighten the tie rod nut until the cotter pin can be inserted without exceeding the specified tightening torque.
20. Fasten the nut.
21. Install the brake caliper.
22. Tighten the new axle nut to the specified torque while holding the hub from turning.
23. Install a new castle washer, aligning the cotter pin slot with the hole in the axle shaft, and cotter pin.
24. Install the wheels, lower the car.
25. Fill the crankcase with oil/transmission fluid.
