Suspension and steering — general description (Nissan Bluebird T12)

The front and rear suspension of the car is independent, with MacPherson shock absorbers with coil springs. On some early models with a turbocharged engine, the damping effect is simulated, which can be changed through three settings to suit the driver's preference. On the front suspension, the wheel hub carrier is clamped to the base of each strut and is attached via a ball joint to the lower suspension arms. The lower arms pivot on rubber bushings and are attached to mounting plates that are bolted to the body. The anti-roll bar is bolted to the body via rubber bushings and connected to both lower suspension arms by ball joints.



On the rear suspension, each strut carries the steering knuckle of the wheel on the lower copy and is located between two parallel cross-links. They pivot on a central cross-member, which is attached to the body with four nuts. The rear cross-links are adjustable in length. The anti-roll bar is bolted to the body through rubber bushings and rockers and is connected to each strut assembly.





Steering - rack and pinion. Some 1.6 liter models have a mechanical steering gear, all others have a power steering system. This system includes an eccentric vane pump, which is mounted at the rear of the cylinder block and is driven by a belt from the crankshaft, a feeder tank, hoses and pipes. The steering column with adjustable tilt has a shock absorber to protect the driver in the event of a collision.



The steering gear, which is clamped by two rubber bushings to the front part of the bulkhead, is connected by steering rods with inner and outer ball joints to the steering knuckles of the front wheels.
