Warning! Some models in this review are equipped with an additional restraint system (SRS). Before servicing components located near the airbags, be sure to deactivate the SRS system (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
1. When the parking brake is adjusted correctly, the travel of the parking brake lever when applying moderate force to the handle should be 8÷10 clicks for 1993 and 1994 models and 10÷11 clicks for 1995 and later models.
2. If the lever stroke is less than the specified permissible number of clicks, the brake may not be released completely, which may result in jamming of the brake mechanisms. If the lever stroke is excessively long, the parking brake may not provide sufficient reliability in holding the vehicle when parking it on a slope.
3. To gain access to the parking brake cable adjuster, remove the center console assembly (see Chapter Body).
4. Turn the adjusting nut to achieve the required lever stroke. To tighten the cable, turn the nut clockwise; to loosen it, turn it counterclockwise.
