4-speed transmissions are installed on cars, the type of which is determined by the wheel arrangement and engine type. Gear shifting is carried out depending on the speed of movement and vacuum in the suction manifold. On RE4R01A or RL4R01A transmissions of 1990 and 1991 cars. a device for automatic transmission shifting in case of engine overload and a lock-up torque converter are provided. These transmissions are equipped with a self-diagnosis system.
The transmission selector can be in one of the following 6 positions.
P - parking, in this position the engine starts to perform all adjustment work on a running engine. It is forbidden to move the selector to this position while driving. Used for parking on slopes.
R - reverse gear
N - neutral position, in this position the engine starts and can idle for a long time while driving on a loaded highway.
ABOUT (on car parts) - shifting transmission when the engine is overloaded, turns on automatically when the switch is actuated (on 4-cylinder engines) or with the engine power switch in the Auto position (on V6 engines).
D - the lever is moved to this position when driving in normal mode.
"2" - the vehicle is driven in 2nd gear, used on steep ascents and descents, as well as when driving on wet surfaces. In this position, the engine is under maximum load.
"1" - in this position, the transmission shifts to 1st or 2nd gear at speeds below or above 40 km/h, respectively. Used for effective engine braking on steep grades.
Repair of automatic transmission is carried out only in a car service. However, you can independently remove this unit and replace it. If the car is operated in conditions of heavy traffic at air temperatures above 30°C, in mountainous areas or is often used as a towing vehicle, then the fluid should be changed every 24,000 km (not 48000). Fluid cooler (located at the bottom of the radiator is washed in a car service. If the transmission does not perform satisfactorily, perform the adjustment and inspection work described below before drawing a conclusion about a malfunction of its internal structure.
