2. Check the split surfaces of the cylinder head and block for burrs, chips, dents and other damage. Minor damage can be removed with a file; if there is serious damage, the head or block must be re-ground.
13.2 Cylinder head of the K24 engine
1. Rocker shafts and valve rocker arms; 2. Cylinder head; 3. Gasket; 4. Bolt; 5. Camshaft; 6. Saddle; 7. Guide bushing; 8. Thrust washer; 9. Oil seal; 10. Rusks; 11. Plate; 12. Inlet
3. Carefully run the threads of the bolts and into the bolt holes.
4. Place the new gasket on the cylinder block, aligning it with the pins. Carefully place the head on the cylinder block, without disturbing the position of the gasket.
5. Tighten the cylinder head bolts by hand back into place.
6. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown (photo), making 1/4 turn at a time. The tightening sequence is specified in the Technical Data.
7. Install the camshaft sprocket.
8. The remaining assembly operations are performed in reverse order.
9. After finishing the work, fill the cooling system with liquid, start the engine, check for leaks. Check the idle speed, adjust if necessary.
13.6 Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence (K24)
10. Adjust the valves to the clearances for a warm engine.
