Examination
Push the damper rod down into the throttle damper and check that the rod moves down slowly, then release the rod and check that it quickly returns to its original position. If not, the throttle damper must be replaced.
Replacement
1. On carbureted models, remove the two mounting screws and remove the throttle damper from the side of the carburetor.
2. On models with electronic fuel injection, loosen the retaining nut and remove the throttle damper from the throttle body mounting bracket.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. After installation is complete, start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. With the engine idling, have an assistant slowly press the accelerator pedal and watch the throttle damper. Note the engine speed at which the adjusting screw touches the end of the damper rod. This should happen at 2500±200 rpm. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting screw as necessary. Check again the speed at which the adjusting screw touches the damper rod and tighten the lock nut when the screw is correctly adjusted.
