Examination
Lower the damper rod deep into the throttle damper and check that the rod drops slowly, then release the rod and check that it quickly returns to its original position. If not, the throttle damper needs to be replaced.
Replacement
1. On models with a carbureted engine, unscrew the two mounting screws and remove the throttle damper from the side of the carburetor.
2. On models with electronic fuel injection, unscrew the mounting nut and remove the throttle damper from the throttle body mounting bracket.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. After installation is complete, start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. With the engine running at idle, have an assistant depress the accelerator pedal slowly and watch the throttle damper. Note the engine speed at which the adjusting screw touches the end of the damper rod. This should happen at 2500±200 rpm. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw as needed. Again check the speed at which the adjusting screw touches the damper rod and tighten the locknut when the screw is properly adjusted.
