When the ignition key is turned to the ON position (ignition on), the selector lever cannot be moved from the "P" range to any other range until the brake pedal is pressed.

The shift lock and ignition key lock mechanisms are controlled respectively by the shift lock solenoid and by a rotating assembly and slider located inside the ignition lock cylinder.
The emergency lever is used in cases where the ignition key cannot be removed due to a disconnected battery. In such cases, the ignition key can be removed using this lever.
