The ignition key cannot be removed from the ignition switch until the selector lever is moved to the "P" range.

The shift lock and ignition key lock mechanisms are controlled respectively by the shift lock solenoid and by a rotating assembly and slider located inside the ignition lock cylinder.

The emergency lever is used in cases where the ignition key cannot be removed due to a disconnected battery. In such cases, the ignition key can be removed using this lever.
