Checking the appearance
Check the driveshaft for dents and damage. If any defects are found, replace the driveshaft with a new one.
Checking the cardan shaft runout
Check the cardan shaft runout at the appropriate points. If the runout exceeds the maximum permissible value, replace the cardan shaft assembly.
Note: Maximum permissible runout of the cardan shaft: 0.6 mm.
Checking the axial play of cardan joints
As shown in the illustration, hold one fork of the universal joint with one hand, and swing the other fork in the direction of the arrows with the other hand to check the axial play of the joints. If play is found, replace the propeller shaft assembly.
Caution: Do not disassemble the cardan joints.
Checking the center bearing
Check for signs of damage or noise in the central bearing. If any, replace the central bearing.
Caution: Do not disassemble the center bearing.
