Oil cooler parts
1. Oil filter; 2. Oil filter housing; 3. O-ring; 4. Oil cooler; 5. O-ring; 6. Centering bolt
Removing
1. Oil cooler (if provided) mounted on the oil filter housing, which is screwed into the rear of the cylinder block.
2. To access the oil cooler, put the car on the handbrake, raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
3. Drain the engine coolant. It is also possible to pinch the hoses next to the oil cooler fittings, however, in the latter case, a certain amount of fluid will be lost after the hoses are disconnected.
4. Disconnect the clamps and remove the hoses from the oil cooler.
5. Mark with paint or a marker the relative orientation of the oil cooler and the oil filter housing.
6. Place a suitable pan under the oil cooler and remove the oil cooler bolt. Wait until the oil stops flowing into the sump, then remove the oil cooler from the engine. Remove the o-rings from the housing and the oil cooler mounting bolt. Be sure to replace these gaskets.
7. Check the condition of the oil cooler for damage, blow out the coolant fittings and make sure they are clean. If damage is found, or if the internal passages are clogged, the oil cooler must be replaced.
Installation
1. Install new O-rings on the housing and on the oil cooler mounting bolt.
2. Install the oil cooler on the oil filter housing, align the marks and tighten the bolt. Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.
3. Attach the hoses, secure them with clamps.
4. Take the car off the stands. Restore coolant and oil levels. Start the engine, check for leaks.
