Starting the engine after major repairs (Nissan Sunny B13)

1. After completing engine assembly, double check the oil and coolant levels.

2. Check the correct connection of the wiring and hoses, remove all foreign objects from the engine compartment.

3. Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the spark plugs. Remove the high-voltage wire from the distributor cap and securely connect it to ground.

4. Turn the crankshaft with the starter until the oil pressure warning light goes out.

5. Screw in the spark plugs and replace the spark plug wires and distributor wire.

6. Start the engine. The engine should start after a short period of time to allow gasoline to fill the fuel line.

7. As the engine warms up, watch carefully for oil, gasoline, or coolant leaks. Unusual odors and smoke from parts exposed to high temperatures may occur as residual oil burns off.

8. If everything is OK, wait until the upper radiator hose warms up, then stop the engine and check the oil and coolant levels.

9. Check the ignition timing and idle speed, stop the engine.

10. After a few minutes, check the oil and coolant levels and top up if necessary.

11. If the cylinder head bolts are tightened in accordance with this description, then there is no need to tighten the head bolts when the engine is first started after a major overhaul.

12. If new pistons, rings, main and connecting rod bearings were installed, the engine must be run in for the first 800 km of mileage.

13. During the break-in period, do not drive with the throttle fully open or at too low a speed in any gear.

14. It is recommended to change the oil and filter after running-in.
