Removal and installation

Examination
Check the pedal and bracket for the following defects:
- Pedal bend
- Axial pin deformation
- Cracks in weld seams
- Cracks and deformations of the pin retainer

Adjustment

Check the height of the pedal above the floor reinforcement (right hand drive models) or the lower part of the front shield (left hand drive models) in a free state (size 11) and under a load of 490 N (50 kgf) with the engine running (value D).
Control values are given in the section "Data for adjustments and control".

If necessary, make adjustments as follows.
1. Loosen the lock nut and adjust the pedal height to the free position by rotating the brake booster push rod. Then tighten the lock nut.
2. Check the pedal height.
Make sure that the brake lights are off when the pedal is released.
3. Check the pedal height when depressed with the engine running. If it is less than specified, check the system for air, fluid leaks or damage (master cylinder, wheel cylinders, etc.). Make the necessary repairs.
