Accumulator battery
Be aware that in cold weather, a battery that is not fully charged can freeze the electrolyte, causing the battery to fail. To maintain maximum performance, the battery must be inspected regularly. See section "Accumulator battery".
Coolant drain
If it is necessary to leave the machine outdoors for a long time, and if antifreeze is not used in the cooling system, then the coolant must be drained. To do this, unscrew the drain plugs at the bottom of the radiator and in the engine block. Refill the fluid before operating the machine. See section "Engine cooling system".
Car tires
1. Summer tires have a tread pattern to ensure the best performance on dry roads. In snow or ice conditions, the performance of such tires is significantly reduced. When driving on snow-covered roads and in icy conditions, Nissan recommends using autumn-winter or all-season tires on all four wheels. If you have questions about type, size, speed rating and tire availability, please contact your Nissan dealer.
2. Studded tires can be used for better grip on icy roads. It should be remembered that in some countries and areas their use is prohibited. Before installing studded tires, make sure that this does not violate local regulations.
Keep in mind that studded tires may have poorer grip on wet or dry roads than non-studded winter tires.
3. If necessary, snow chains can be used. The size of the chains must match the size of the tires. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation. Be sure to tighten the chains with a special tensioner, if there are special instructions from the manufacturer. To avoid damage to the fenders and undercarriage, secure the ends of the chains and drive at a slower than normal speed. At high speed, the controllability and dynamic performance of the machine in the presence of chains are significantly reduced.
Special winter equipment
In winter, it is recommended to have the following tools in the car:
- 1. Scraper and stiff brush to remove ice and snow from windows and wiper blades
- 2. A sturdy flat board to set up as a support for the jack.
- 3. A shovel for digging the car out of a snowdrift.
- 4. A supply of washing liquid for filling the windshield washer reservoir.
Driving on snowy roads and in icy conditions
Wet snow and melting ice (at 0°С) or hard frozen snow and ice can be very slippery and their presence on the road greatly complicates the movement due to a significant reduction in tire adhesion to the road surface. It is recommended that you avoid driving on such roads and drive on roads covered with sand or road salt.
You should drive with extreme caution and accelerate smoothly. When accelerating quickly, the wheels will spin, further reducing traction.
You should count on a longer braking distance and start braking earlier than on a dry road,
On slippery roads, it is necessary to maintain a large distance from the car in front.
Slippery areas need to be watched (shiny ice surfaces) and increase attention on poorly lit sections of the road. You should slow down the car if there is an area covered with ice on the road ahead. Avoid braking if the car has driven into an icy section of the road, and do not make sudden maneuvers.
Warming up the engine with a heater
CAREFULLY! To avoid personal injury from electric shock, do not use portable heaters that are not grounded or powered by a two-phase network to warm up the engine (with two-pin plug).
Corrosion protection
Chemicals sprayed on icy roads are highly corrosive and accelerate the rusting and wear of body and suspension parts - exhaust duct, brake fluid and fuel supply lines, brake cables, underbody and fenders, etc.
In winter, the bottom of the body must be cleaned periodically. The procedure for cleaning the body and applying anti-corrosion protection measures are set out in the chapter "car care".
If, due to local conditions, the recommended anti-corrosion protection measures are not sufficient, contact your Nissan dealer.
