Start of movement
t After starting the engine, press the brake pedal and only then move the gearshift lever to one of the driving positions (provisions "D", "R", "2" or "1"). Make sure the vehicle is completely stationary before moving the lever.
On models equipped with a gear lever lock button, it is not possible to shift from a gear "P" in any gear, if the brake pedal is not pressed. This locking mechanism only works when the ignition key is in the "ON".
1. Keeping the brake pedal depressed, engage one of the driving gears.
2. Release the parking and pedal brakes and gradually begin to move.
ATTENTION!
The idle speed of a cold engine is higher than that of a warm one. Extra care must be taken when shifting gears (both forward and reverse) until the engine warms up. To avoid sudden movement of the vehicle, do not increase the engine speed when idling.
Driving Precautions
It is forbidden to switch the gear lever to the position "R" or "R" during movement.
When starting the engine, the gear lever must be in the position "R" or "N". In other positions of the lever, the engine will not start (if it starts, you need to go to a Nissan dealer to have the car repaired).
When parking, even for a short time, you should set the gear lever to the position "N" and put the car on the parking brake.
During switching from position "N" in one of the driving positions, the engine must be idling.
When the vehicle stops on an upward slope.
You need to press the brake pedal (after switching the selector to the position "N"), to hold the machine in place and keep the transmission from overheating.
Attention (when starting the engine)
Depress the brake pedal
Switching the gear lever to the position "D", "R", "2" or "1" with the brake pedal depressed and the engine running, the machine will move slowly. Before you move the lever to one of these positions, you must fully depress the brake pedal.
Make sure the shift lever is in the correct position
Make sure the shift lever is in the correct position. Regulations "D", "1", "2" designed to move forward, a "R" - back. After setting the lever to the desired position, release the parking brake and release the pedal brake. Step on the accelerator pedal and the car will start moving. Avoid abrupt starts and tire spin. It is not necessary to increase turns of the engine idling. This may cause the machine to move suddenly if the shift lever is in the "D", "R", "2" or "1", or engine damage if it is in position "N" or "R".
Warm up the engine
The idle speed of a cold engine is higher than that of a warm one. Great care must be taken when shifting the gear lever to the drive positions until the engine has warmed up.
Car parking
Step on the brake pedal and when the car comes to a stop, move the shift lever to the park position "R". Then set the parking brake and release the pedal brake.
To switch to positions "R". "R" or out of position "2" into position "1" press the button. All other positions can be set without pressing a button.
"R" (parking)
This position is for parking the car or starting the engine. It should be used with the parking brake applied. When parking on a slope, first set the parking brake, then shift the lever to the "R".
ATTENTION! The lever can only be set to this position when the vehicle is stationary.
"R" (Reverse)
Reverse position. Switching to this position is allowed only after the machine has come to a complete stop.
"N" (Neutral)
Disabled both forward and reverse. In this position, you can start the engine. If the engine stalled while driving, then it should be started after switching the selector to the position "N".
"D" (Movement)
Designed for normal forward movement.
"2" (Second gear)
Designed for climbing up a slope or for engine braking when going down a slope. It is not allowed to switch the gear lever to the position "2" at speeds over 95 km/h. If the lever is set to the position "2", the speed limit of 895 km/h must be observed.
"1" (low gear)
Designed for slow climbs uphill or slow travel in deep snow, sand or mud, and for maximum engine braking on steep downhill grades.
It is not allowed to switch the gear lever to the position "1" at speeds over 95 km/h. If the lever is set to the position "1", the speed limit of 50 km/h must be observed.
Fast switching from position "D" to a lower gear
Depress the accelerator pedal as far as it will go when overtaking or when going uphill quickly. This will shift to a lower second or first gear, depending on the vehicle speed.
Overshift switch
ON (On): Shift into overdrive during normal driving (button pressed). The gearshift lever must be in the position "D". In overdrive mode, as the vehicle speed increases, the transmission automatically upshifts.
The overdrive mechanism starts working only after the engine warms up.
OFF (off): When driving up or down long slopes, when is it more efficient to use "braking" engine, turn off the overdrive (button released). In addition, when driving at low speed for a long time or on a long, gentle hill, the transmission may constantly shift between 3rd gear and overdrive, causing discomfort. In such cases, it is also recommended to turn off the overdrive. When overdrive is disabled, the warning light is on.
After driving conditions return to normal, shift up again.
To avoid an increase in fuel consumption, do not drive at high speed with the overdrive disengaged for a long time.
