Connections requiring angular tightening
When final tightening the connections listed below, a wrench is required to ensure that the required rotation angle is achieved:
- Cylinder head bolts
- Main bearing cap bolts (only in SR engine)
- Connecting rod bearing cap nuts (in SR and CD engines).
Applying sealant as a "liquid gasket"
Before applying a layer of sealant, remove all traces of old sealant from the mating surfaces and grooves. Thoroughly degrease the surfaces.
Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the surfaces to be sealed (use Genuine Liquid Gasket or equivalent).
- On the oil pan, the shaft diameter should be between 4 and 5 mm in the SR engine and between 3.5 and 4.5 mm in the GA and CD engines.
- In other places the roller diameter should be within 2.0 - 3.0 mm.
The sealant should go around the holes in a circle from the inside.

Assembly must be completed within 5 minutes after application of the sealant.
Wait at least 30 minutes before adding engine oil or coolant.
NOTE: In the following, unless a specific sealant type is specifically stated, Genuine Liquid Gasket or similar sealant is implied.
