Removal, installation and maintenance of the air cleaner filter element
Element Maintenance
The procedure is described in detail in Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance.
Removal and installation
Attention! Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the airflow meter.
2. Release the clips securing the top of the air cleaner housing to the bottom.
3. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the meter air duct sleeve from the air stream.
4. Remove the upper half of the air cleaner housing and remove the filter element.
5. Give fixing nuts and remove the bottom half of the case of an air cleaner from the car.
Attention! Installation
Installation is in the reverse order. Once all components are installed, start the engine and check for air leaks.
Removal and installation of an air duct
Removing
1. Loosen the clamps securing the air duct to the airflow meter and throttle body.
2. Give the bolt (s) muffler mounting on the cylinder head cover.
3. Mark and disconnect from the muffler hoses.
4. Remove assembly of an air duct with the muffler from the car.
5. If necessary, loosen the clamp and disconnect the air duct sleeve from the muffler.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order. Make sure that the arrow on the air duct sleeve aligns with the dot mark on the muffler during installation.
Removal and installation of the throttle body
Removing
1. Remove the air duct.
2. Disconnect the throttle cable from the link on the throttle body.
3. Drain the coolant, lowering its level below the level of the throttle body.
4. Disconnect from the throttle body cooling hoses from the throttle position sensor (TPS) and idle speed switch (the location of the throttle body and related components is shown in the accompanying illustration).
1 - delivery chamber of the air path; 2 - throttle cable; 3 - throttle body; 4 - duct assembly; 5 —- TPS and idle speed switch
6. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle body.
7. Give fixing bolts, remove the throttle body with a lining from the delivery chamber and take it out of the car.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order.
1. Be sure to carefully remove all traces of the old gasket material from the mating surfaces of the delivery chamber and throttle body. If traces of carbon deposits are found in the throttle body, remove them with a special carburetor cleaner. Be careful not to let the cleaning liquid come into contact with the electrical components and the spindle.
2. Before installing the throttle body, make sure that the gasket is correctly positioned.
3. Tighten the bolts evenly, in a diagonal order, achieving the required force at the last stage.
4. Add coolant to the cooling system.
5. Check TPS, adjust if necessary.
6. Adjust the throttle cable.
7. Start the engine and check for air leaks.
Removal, installation and adjustment of the throttle cable
Removal and installation
Attention! Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the cable core from the link on the throttle body.
2. Loosen the adjusting nut and release the cable sheath from the bracket.
3. In the passenger compartment, pry off the plastic bushing of the cable and remove it from the upper part of the gas pedal lever. Release the cable core from the lever.
4. Give bolts of fastening of an arm of a cable.
5. Retract the cable through the bulkhead of the engine compartment into the vehicle interior.
6. Check cable and cable sheath for signs of wear, pins or other damage. Replace cable if necessary.
Attention! Installation
Installation is in the reverse order.
1. When installing, avoid twisting the cable and do not bend it excessively to avoid peg formation.
2. Track correctness of landing of the plastic plug of a cable in the lever of a pedal of gas.
Attention! Adjustment
1. Make sure the hand throttle is fully released.
2. Have an assistant fully depress the gas pedal.
3. In the engine compartment, turn the adjusting nut until the throttle valve is set to the fully open position. Tighten the adjusting nut firmly.
4. Release the gas pedal and make sure that the damper is completely closed, and the pedal has a free play of about 1÷3 mm. There should also be some slack in the cable core on the throttle body. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
