General information
Power system for Maverick and Patrol series vehicles (models 3.0 l and 4.2 l until 1992, issue.) consists of carburetor, fuel pump, air cleaner, fuel filter and fuel tank.
All models are equipped with the same type of carburetor with minor differences for 3.0 liter models with AT and manual transmission. All differences in the order of performance of maintenance procedures for these carburetors are listed in the text of the Chapter.
The carburetor is a two-chamber unit with a common float chamber. The fuel level in the float chamber is maintained by a float controlled needle valve.
Primary (I) carburetor system (idle system) is responsible for the layout of the air-fuel mixture at low and medium engine speeds and during acceleration. Also, a combustible mixture is formed here to start the engine when the air damper is closed.
Secondary (II) (main dosing) the system forms a mixture for high speeds and conditions of intensive loads on the engine.
The accelerator pump provides additional fuel during engine acceleration by means of a thrust controlled throttle plunger device with control ball.
The automatic start device is equipped with electric heating, and a special vacuum drive provides a slight opening of the throttle valve at the time of starting a cold engine, thereby maintaining its performance at the initial stage.
The carburetor is equipped with a solenoid shut-off valve controlled by the ignition switch. When the ignition is turned off, the valve closes the idle fuel supply channel, minimizing the idle time of the engine.
On 4.2L models, fuel is supplied by a non-repairable mechanical fuel pump mounted on the cylinder block. On 3.0L models, fuel is supplied by an electric pump located in the gas tank. A special control unit is responsible for the operation of the pump, located behind the protective panel under the fuse mounting block.
