On-board diagnostics (OBD) system for engine and automatic transmission (Nissan Qashqai J10)

The engine control module (ECM) is equipped with an on-board diagnostic system. In the event of deterioration in the performance of emission control devices, this system will turn on the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) to warn the driver.

Attention.

• Before performing any repair or inspection work, make sure that the ignition is switched off (key in the "OFF" position) and the ground wire is removed from the battery. Open/short circuits in the electrical circuits of the corresponding switches, sensors, solenoids and other similar devices will be accompanied by the illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
• After completing the work, make sure that the connectors are securely connected and fixed (fixation disorder) connector may cause a contact failure in the electrical circuits and turn on the fault indicator. (Make sure that no water, grease, or dirt has entered the contacts on the connectors, that the terminals are not bent, etc.).
• Some systems and components, particularly those related to the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system, use a new type of locking connector on the wiring harnesses.
• After completing the work, route and secure the wiring harnesses properly. Damage to the wires where they contact the mounting brackets may cause a short circuit and turn on the fault indicator.
• After performing the work, make sure that the rubber tubes are connected properly. Incorrect connection or disconnection of the rubber tubes may cause the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) to turn on due to a malfunction of the EVAP system, fuel injection system or other systems.
• Upon completion of the work, be sure to delete the TCM and ECM from the memory of the electronic units (transmission control unit) unnecessary information about previously occurring malfunctions.
