On the crown of the pulley there are installation marks applied at intervals of 5°. The first risk is located at 20°before TDC, and the last at 5°after TDC. The risk corresponding to TDC is marked with yellow paint. The arrow marks the pointer on the front cover.
1. Warm up the engine, check the idle speed, turn off the ignition.
Carburetor engines
2. Disconnect the hose from the vacuum regulator (or pressure sensor hose on engines with catalytic converter), plug the hose.
3. Connect the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Start the engine and point the light at the crankshaft pulley. At idle, the illuminated mark should be opposite the pointer.
5. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the distributor bolts and turn the distributor housing until the mark aligns with the pointer.
6. Tighten the bolts and check the ignition setting again.
7. Check the operation of the centrifugal governor, for which make sure that with an increase in engine speed, the scale on the pulley crown seems to shift "forward" relative to the pointer, and when the speed drops to idle, the illuminated mark should again be opposite the pointer.
8. Connect the hoses and make sure that the ignition has become earlier and the advance angle is correct.
9. Otherwise, the vacuum regulator is faulty (or head pressure sensor) or there is a leak in the hose.
10. Stop the engine and disconnect the stroboscope.
Injection engines
11. Disconnect the connector from the damper sensor.
12. Check and adjust ignition (see pp. 3–5).
13. Stop the engine and disconnect the stroboscope.
14. Connect the connector to the throttle sensor.
