Removal
1. Discharge the refrigerant from the air conditioner into a recycling/recovery unit (for HFC-134a)
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. See chapter Lubrication system and engine cooling system.
3. Remove the hood grille cover. See chapter Body.
4. Remove the lower bulkhead insulator.
5. Loosen the mounting bolt (A) and disconnect the low pressure flexible hose (1) and high pressure pipe (2) from the evaporator.

Caution: To prevent air from entering, plug or wrap the nipple with a suitable material, such as vinyl tape.
6. Remove the clamps (A) and disconnect the heater hoses (1) from the heater core.

7. Remove the console box assembly. See the BODY chapter.
8. Loosen the mounting nuts (A), remove the wiring clamps (B) and remove the instrument panel pillar (1).

9. Disconnect the connector from the intake air temperature sensor (1).

10. Remove the instrument panel and trims. See chapter Body.
11. Remove the side ventilation ducts.
12. Remove the center ventilation duct.
13. Remove the mounting bolts (A) from the air conditioner assembly, the mounting bolts (B) from the steering column beam, the mounting nuts (C) from the steering column, and remove the wiring clamps.

14. Remove the steering column beam and then the air conditioner assembly.

Installation
Installation is generally performed in the reverse order of removal.
Attention:
- Replace the air conditioner tube O-rings with new ones and apply compressor oil when connecting them.
- When charging refrigerant, check for leaks.
Note:
- When filling the radiator with coolant, see chapter Lubrication system and engine cooling system.
- Charge the refrigerant.
Air conditioner assembly mounting bolt: Tightening torque: 6.9 N·m (0.7 kg·m)
Steering column beam mounting bolt: Tightening torque: 12 N·m (1.25 kg·m)
Steering column mounting nuts: Tightening torque: 12 N·m (1.25 kg·m)
