General procedures
Check suspension components for increased play, wear, cracks and other damage.
Rock the front wheels vertically to determine if there is increased play.
Check that all cotter pins are in place. Tighten all suspension fasteners to the required torque.
Telescopic racks
Check the struts for oil leaks and damage.

Ball joints
Check the ball joints for grease leaks. If the ball joint boot is cracked or otherwise damaged, replace the entire lower control arm.
Check the free play of the ball joint pin as follows.
1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
2. Attach the dial indicator to the lower control arm and rest the indicator foot against the lower edge of the caliper.
3. Make sure the front wheels are in a straight-ahead position and the brake pedal is released.
4. Insert a tire lever between the lower control arm and the inner edge of the wheel rim
5. Move the paddle up and down, observing the indicator readings. There should be no vertical free play.
6. If there is vertical free play, remove the lower arm and check the ball joint (see the relevant section of this chapter).
Hub bearings
Check the smooth rotation of the bearings. Check the axial clearance in the bearings.
- Axial clearance - no more than 0.05 mm
If the clearance is not within the specified limits or the bearings rotate with seizure and noise, replace them as an assembly (see the section "Hub and steering knuckle").
Drive shafts
Check the integrity of the protective covers of the constant velocity joints, and make sure that there is no damage to the shafts themselves.
