Disassembly
WARNING: After the hub or bearing has been pressed out of the steering knuckle, always replace the bearing assembly (outer ring, inner ring and mud rings).
Hub. Knock out the hub with the bearing inner race (outdoor) from the steering knuckle using a suitable mandrel.
hub bearing. The bearing is replaced only as an assembly. It is removed in the following way. You press the bearing inner race out of the hub using a suitable drift then remove the outer mudguard.
Knock out the inner mudguard ring from the steering knuckle.
Remove the retainer.
You press the outer ring of the bearing.
Examination
Carefully check the hub and steering knuckle for cracks, including hidden ones.
Check for cracks or signs of wear on the circlip. Replace ring if necessary.
Assembly
1. Press the new hub bearing into the steering knuckle.
- Maximum pressing force 29 kN (3 ts)
WARNINGS:
- Do not apply force to the bearing inner race.
- Do not apply grease to the mating surfaces of the bearing race and steering knuckle.
Install the circlip into the groove in the steering knuckle.
3. Pack the dirt ring with multipurpose grease.
4. Press in the outer mudguard.
- Maximum pressing force 10 kP (1 tf)
5. Press in the inner mudguard.
- Maximum pressing force 10 kN (1 tf)
6. Press the hub into the steering knuckle.
- Maximum pressing force 29 kN (3 ts)
Be careful not to damage the gas deflector rings.
7. Check the operation of the bearing. To do this, apply a force of 34.3-49.0 kN to the hub (3.5-5.0 tf), keeping the same arrangement of the mandrels as when pressing in, and turn the steering knuckle several times in both directions. The bearing must rotate without jamming or noise.
