Attention:
In case of breakage of the compressor wheel, turbine wheel, rotor shaft, remove foreign particles remaining in the following paths to prevent consequences.
Inlet side: between turbocharger and intercooler.
Outlet side: between turbocharger and catalytic converter.
Water supply and return pipes
Flush the water supply and return pipes with radiator flush, blow them out with compressed air and check for blockages.
Oil supply and return pipes
Flush the oil supply and return pipes with engine conditioner, blow them out with compressed air and check for blockages.
Turbocharger
Flush the turbocharger before checking.
Flush the oil supply and return hoses with an engine conditioner.
Flush the water inlet and return holes with radiator flush.
After flushing, blow with compressed air.
Blow out the compressor wheel, turbine wheel, compressor housing and turbine housing with an air gun.
Rotor shaft
Turn the rotor shaft with your finger and make sure that it rotates easily, without jamming.
Check the play of the rotor shaft by moving it back and forth and left and right.
- Standard lubrication gap of the rotor shaft: 0.056-0.127 mm
Axial play of the rotor shaft
Install an indicator on the end of the shaft and measure the end play.
- Standard end play: 0.013-0.097 mm
Turbine wheel
Check for oil on the wheel.
Check for the absence of soot.
Check the integrity of the wheel and the absence of bends.
Check for contact with the turbine housing.
Compressor wheel
Check for oil in the inlet section.
Check for contact with the compressor housing.
Check the integrity of the wheel and the absence of bends.
VNT drive
Connect a vacuum pump to the drive and check for smooth running according to the pressure below.
First create a vacuum to approximately -67 kPa (-500 mmHg Art.), and then raise approx. up to 0 kPa.
Standard value (vacuum/stroke):
- -53±4kPa (-400±30 mmHg Art.) /0.2 mm
- -36±7 kPa (-270±50 mmHg Art.) /5.0 mm
Approx. -23 kPa (-170 mmHg Art.) thrust stops moving
Turbocharger malfunctions
Before troubleshooting.
- (1) Make sure the engine oil level is between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick.
- (2) Make sure the engine oil is cooled at idle after driving.
If at least one test result in accordance with the table below is negative, replace the turbocharger assembly.
If a complete check is not possible, it can be assumed that the turbocharger itself is good and check the other parts again.
