Removal
1. Set the vehicle wheels to the straight-ahead position.
2. Loosen the intermediate shaft bolt (from the bottom side), and then remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft.
3. Using a power jack, remove the wheels from the vehicle.
4. Using a special puller, remove the steering rod ends without damaging the ball joint boots.
Caution: Temporarily tighten the nuts to prevent damage to the threads and accidental slipping of the puller.
5. Remove the front subframe.
6. Remove the steering gear assembly.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the features listed below.
Caution: The contact disc may limit the steering wheel rotation range if improperly assembled after separating the steering column and steering gear. Make sure the steering column is securely fixed against rotation.
Perform final tightening of threaded connections on an unloaded vehicle standing on the ground surface.
Check the wheel alignment angles and adjust the neutral position of the steering angle sensor.
Post-installation check
Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to make sure it turns freely.
Check the play and neutral position of the steering wheel, the force applied to the steering wheel, as well as the turning angles of the steering wheels.
