Camshafts — Removal (Nissan Qashqai J10)

Note: All directions of rotation mentioned in the text are assumed to be viewed from the front of the engine.

1. Remove the following parts:

Intake manifold.

Cylinder head cover.

Front cover and timing drive.

Note: There is no need to remove the balancer block.

2. Remove the camshaft position sensor (phase sensor) from the camshaft bracket.

Attention.

• Handling the camshaft position sensor (phase sensor) handle it carefully, avoid hitting it.
• Do not disassemble the camshaft position sensor (phase sensor).
• Avoid affecting the camshaft position sensor (phase sensor) electromagnetic field.

3. Place a timing mark (A) on the intake camshaft sprocket (2) and camshaft bracket (1) as shown in the figure.

Note: To prevent incorrect installation of the intake camshaft sprocket, there is a dowel pin on the shaft.

4. Remove the intake (1) and exhaust (2) camshaft sprockets:

Holding the camshaft by the hexagonal part (A) with a wrench, loosen the mounting bolts and remove the sprocket.

Attention.

• Do not allow the crankshaft or camshafts to turn with the drive chain removed. This may cause the pistons to come into contact with the valves, causing damage.
• Do not loosen the sprocket mounting bolts by holding the camshaft with tension on the drive chain or by any area other than the hexagonal portion.

5. Remove the camshaft bracket:



Unscrew the mounting bolts in the reverse order to that shown in the figure.

Separate the parts by cutting the sealant with a special knife in the places indicated in the figure by black arrows, and remove the camshaft bracket.

Attention.

• Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces.
• In some places the sealant is applied to meet specific operational needs and does not need to be removed, so the sealant needs to be cut only at the points shown in the figure.

6. Remove the camshafts.

7. Remove the valve lifters.

Note: It is necessary to arrange the tappets in the order of installation and take measures to prevent them from being mixed up.

8. If necessary, remove the pulse disc from the intake camshaft.
