Note: Default values for all tests are given in the section "Service data and specification" at the end of the chapter.
Camshaft runout
1. Place the prisms on the marking plate and place the shaft on the prisms with journals No.2 and 5.
Caution: Do not place neck #1 on the prism (closest to the shaft sprocket), since it has a different diameter from the others.
2. Install the dial indicator leg vertically on neck No.3.

3. Rotate the shaft by hand in one direction to determine the runout of the camshaft (amplitude of the arrow oscillation).
4. If the measured value does not meet the specifications, replace the camshaft with a new one.
Camshaft cam height
1. Use a micrometer to measure the height of the camshaft cam.

2. If the measured value does not meet the specifications, replace the camshaft with a new one.
Oil clearance on the camshaft journal
Camshaft journal diameter
Measure the outside diameter of the camshaft journal using a micrometer (A).

Camshaft bed diameter
Tighten the camshaft bracket bolts to the specified torque.
Using a bore gauge (A), measure the diameter (B) of the camshaft bed.

Oil clearance on the camshaft journal
(Oil clearance) = (Bed diameter) - (Neck diameter)
If the calculated value exceeds the specification values, replace the camshaft or cylinder head, or both.
Note: The camshaft bracket is not replaced separately, as it is bored together with the cylinder head. Replace the cylinder head as an assembly.
Checking the axial clearance of the camshaft
Place the dial indicator leg on the front end of the camshaft parallel to its axis. Move the shaft back and forth to measure the axial clearance:

Check if the following dimensions are within the acceptable range:
Dimension "A" of bed groove No.1 of cylinder head. Standard value: 4.000-4.030 mm.

Dimension "B" of camshaft flange. Standard value: 3.877-3.925 mm.
Taking into account the given technical conditions, a decision is made to replace the camshaft and/or cylinder head.
Camshaft Sprocket Runout
1. Place the prisms on the marking plate and place the shaft on the prisms with journals No.2 and 5.
Caution: Do not place neck #1 on the prism (closest to the relay star), since it has a different diameter from the others.
2. Using a dial indicator (A), measure the axial runout of the sprocket (arrow amplitude).

If the measured value does not correspond to the specifications, replace the sprocket.
Valve lifter
Check the tappet surfaces for cracks and wear.
If such defects are present, replace the tappet.

Clearance between the pusher and the walls of the socket
Outside diameter of the push rod
Measure the outside diameter of the valve tappets with a micrometer (A).

Pusher socket diameter
Using a bore gauge (A), measure the diameter of the tappet socket.

Clearance between the pusher and the socket wall
(Gap) = (Socket diameter) - (Outside diameter of the push rod)
If the calculated clearance value does not correspond to the specifications, then, based on the measured values of the tappet and socket diameter, replace the tappet and/or the cylinder head.
