General description
If, during self-diagnosis, malfunctions are detected in the main sensors necessary for the operation of the ECCS unit, fault codes are recorded in the memory of the control unit, which simplifies diagnosis. Malfunctions are read in two ways: using the CONSULT service tester and by flashing the engine control lamp in the instrument cluster.
There are two diagnostic modes. Mode 1 is the normal state, mode 2 is the self-diagnosis mode.
Description of the operation of the self-diagnosis system
Self-diagnosis mode 2 is activated after turning the ignition key to the ON position (engine not running) and short circuit for 2 seconds of the SNK and IGN contacts of the diagnostic connector (located on the right side of the lower section of the dashboard on the driver's side).
Self-diagnosis is carried out after turning the ignition key to the ON position (mode 2 self-diagnosis).
After turning the ignition key to the OFF position, it automatically returns to mode 1 (normal state).
Operating modes of a control lamp of malfunction of the engine
Mode 1 - lamp test
The lamp should come on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and go out after the engine is started.
If the warning light stays on after starting the engine, there is a possibility that there is water in the fuel filter. Drain the water (see section «Checking the fuel filter»).
Mode 1 - fault indication
If a malfunction is detected as a result of self-diagnosis, the control lamp switches to the malfunction indication mode and starts flashing, notifying the driver of this.
Mode 2 - self-diagnosis
A flashing engine malfunction indicator lamp indicates that a fault code is being stored in the system memory.
The 4-digit code number and the upper 2 digits are displayed by flashing with a long interval, and the lower 2 digits by flashing with a small interval. For example, code #1003 will flash 10 times at a long interval and 3 times at a short interval.
If there are no faults, a code is displayed «0505».

Conditions under which the check engine light goes out
In order to start the diagnosis again after a malfunction is detected, turn the ignition key to the OFF position for 4 seconds. and more. If there is no malfunction, self-diagnosis can be performed again.
To turn off the check engine malfunction warning light due to engine overheating, clear the self-diagnosis results by turning the ignition key to the OFF position after eliminating the causes of overheating.
How to clear self-test results
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position for more than 4 seconds. When the engine stops, turn the ignition key to the ON position (without starting the engine), bridge the SNK and IGN pins of the diagnostic connector for 2 seconds or more in mode 2, then open.
