Attention! If the maintenance procedure has not been followed for a long time, then the checks and adjustments described below should be carried out as necessary.
Timely oil and filter changes are the most important preventive maintenance that an owner can perform on their own. As engine oil ages, it thins and becomes contaminated, leading to premature engine wear.
Before changing the oil, prepare all the necessary tools and materials. It is best to drain the oil when the engine is warm, as hot oil is quickly and completely removed from the engine, dragging contaminants with it. The work is greatly simplified if the car is on a flyover, a viewing hole, or raised on a jack and placed on stands. When changing the oil, the vehicle must be maintained in a horizontal position, regardless of the method of lifting, or in such a position that the drain plug of the pan is at its lowest point.
1. Remove the oil filler cap on the cylinder head cover.
2. Loosen the drain plug about 1/2 turn. Place a vessel under the cork and remove the cork completely. Remove the sealing ring from the plug.
3. Drain the oil by gradually moving the pan closer to the drain hole.
4. Wipe clean the plug and O-ring. Check the condition of the sealing ring, if damage is found, replace the ring. Wipe the surface of the pan around the drain hole, put on the ring, wrap and tighten the plug with the specified torque.
5. The oil filter is located on the right side of the cylinder block, at the rear. Access to the filter is provided from below.
6. Place a vessel under the filter.
7. Loosen the filter with a special wrench, then unscrew the filter by hand. Drain the oil from the filter into a vessel.
8. Wipe clean the filter seal area on the engine to remove any remaining oil and dirt. Inspect the used filter, check for a gasket that may have stuck to the cylinder block, remove the gasket.
9. Lightly coat the new filter gasket with fresh engine oil and screw on the filter. After the gasket has come into contact with the surface of the cylinder block, slightly tighten the filter, and then tighten 2/3 of a turn.
10. Remove the vessel with drained oil and tools from under the car, lower the car.
11. Pour in half the required amount of oil. Wait about 2 minutes for the oil to drain into the pan. Continue to add oil in small portions until the level reaches the bottom mark on the dipstick. Bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick by adding about 1.0 liters of oil.
12. Start the engine and watch for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug for two minutes. Keep in mind that the emergency oil pressure warning lamp will go out a few seconds after the engine is started, i.e. through the time required to fill the oil filter and oil channels. Until the lamp goes out, the engine should only be idling.
13. Stop the engine, after two minutes check the oil level again, top up if necessary.
