Note: Steering column components are shown in the illustration Steering column. Disassembling the steering column is not allowed; if there is a malfunction, replace the steering column assembly.
1. Remove the steering wheel, driver airbag unit and coil spring.
2. Remove all clamps and disconnect the wiring connectors on the steering column assembly.
3. Unscrew the bolt securing the intermediate shaft to the steering gear and disconnect the shaft from the mechanism.
4. Loosen the steering column mounting nuts and make sure it moves freely.
5. Disconnect the electrical power steering (EPAS) wiring connector and remove the steering column assembly from the vehicle.
6. Remove the bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
Note: Do not rotate the shaft more than 360 degrees to avoid damaging the EPAS control unit.
7. To check, measure the length of the steering column and its rotation force (see Specifications). Replace the steering column assembly if necessary.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Do not change the relative positions of the bolts and nuts securing the shaft. Before final tightening of the fasteners, tighten them by hand and make sure that there is no jamming or sticking of the components.
9. After installation, check the operation of the steering.
