Attention! The following operation will release pressure from the fuel system - be aware that fuel will remain in the system, therefore, take the necessary precautions when disconnecting system components. Use clean rags to wrap around connections to collect fuel. Dispose of cloths that have absorbed fuel with care. Plug or cover exposed fuel lines to prevent fuel leakage or dirt from entering the system.
The fuel system described in this subsection consists of a fuel pump installed in the fuel tank, a fuel filter, a fuel manifold and injectors, a pressure regulator, as well as metal pipes and flexible hoses connecting these elements. All of these elements contain fuel that is under pressure when the engine is running and/or when the ignition is off. The pressure remains in the system for some time after the clutch is released, and it must be released before removing the system components.
Pressure release
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the vehicle's fuse box - the fuses are not numbered but can be identified from the chart on the fuse box cover and from the wiring diagrams at the back of this manual.
2. Start the engine and wait until it stalls on its own.
3. Try to start the engine a couple more times to ensure that all residual pressure is released from the system.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
5. For safety, the fuel pump fuse should not be replaced until all work on the fuel system has been completed. If you now install a fuse, do not turn on the ignition until the end of the work.
