Warning! The following operation will release pressure from the fuel system - remember that there will be fuel left in the system, so take the necessary precautions when disconnecting system components. Use clean rags wrapped around connections to collect fuel. Dispose of rags soaked with fuel with care. Plug or cap open fuel lines to prevent fuel leakage or dirt from entering the system.
The fuel system described in this subsection consists of a fuel pump installed in the fuel tank, a fuel filter, a fuel rail and injectors, a pressure regulator, and metal tubes and flexible hoses connecting these elements. All of these elements contain fuel, which is under pressure when the engine is running and/or when the ignition is turned off. Pressure remains in the system for some time after the clutch is disengaged and must be released before removing the system elements.
Pressure release
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the vehicle's fuse box - fuses are not numbered, but their ownership can be determined from the table on the fuse box cover and using the electrical diagrams provided at the end of this manual.
2. Start the engine and wait until it stalls on its own.
3. Try starting the engine a couple more times to ensure that any residual pressure is released from the system.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

5. For safety, the fuel pump fuse should not be replaced until all work on the fuel system is complete. If you do replace the fuse now, do not turn on the ignition until the work is complete.
