Steering wheel — checking and servicing on the car — checking for play (Nissan Note E11)

1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel slightly to the left and right until the front wheels begin to move. Measure the play of the steering wheel at the periphery. If the play is abnormal, check whether the following components are installed correctly:

• steering gear assembly;
• front suspension;
• axle and steering column.

Standard steering wheel play: 0-35 mm

2. Check the vertical, horizontal or axial play of the steering wheel.

Steering wheel axial play: 0 mm

Raise the vehicle and check the steering gear mounting nuts and bolts for looseness.

Tightening torque: 94 Nm (9.6 kg·m)
