Description
If a malfunction occurs in the system, the ABS warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster. In this case, switch to «mass» contact of the diagnostic connector, which is located at the bottom of the dashboard. By flashing the ABS warning lamp in the self-diagnosis mode, determine the area where the malfunction occurred.
Self-diagnosis procedure
1. Before performing the self-diagnosis procedure, find out all the circumstances under which the malfunction occurs.
2. Drive more than 30 km/h for approximately 1 minute.
3. Stop the vehicle and run diagnostics.
4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
5. Bridge the test contact to «mass».
6. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, start the self-diagnosis mode.
Attention:
During the self-diagnosis, the test contact must be bridged to «mass».
Do not step on the brake pedal or start the engine (self-diagnosis will not start).
7. After starting the self-diagnosis mode, after about 3-4 seconds, the ABS warning lamp starts flashing. Determine the fault code by the number of blinks.
Attention: If the self-diagnostic mode does not start (ABS warning light on but not flashing), check the ABS actuator and control unit, the test lamp circuit and the diagnostic connector. Repair or replace the failed component as needed.
Note: The indication stops after 5 minutes. However, when the ignition key is turned from OFF to ON again, the indication resumes.
8. Determine the area where the malfunction occurred, according to the code, see the table. Troubleshoot.
9. After troubleshooting, erase the trouble codes from the memory of the control unit. See the relevant section below.
10. Run the self-diagnosis mode and check if the codes are cleared.
11. Remove the jumper from the test contact and «masses» and end the self-diagnosis mode.
12. Drive faster than 30 km/h for approx. for 1 minute and check that the ABS warning light does not come on.
How to read trouble codes
The code number is determined by counting the number of flashes of the ABS warning lamp.
When multiple faults are detected at the same time, up to three fault codes can be stored. The most recently detected fault will be displayed first.
The display will start with start code 12. After that, a maximum of three fault codes appear in order from the last to the first. The display then repeats, starting with start code 12.
If there are no faults, only start code 12 is displayed cyclically.
How to clear trouble codes
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, start the engine.
2. Drive more than 30 km/h for approximately 1 minute and check that there are no other component failures.
3. Stop the vehicle.
4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
5. Bridge the test contact to «mass».
6. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, start the self-diagnosis mode.
Caution: Do not depress the brake pedal or start the engine while performing the self-test (self-diagnosis will not start).
7. After starting the self-diagnosis mode, after about 3-4 seconds, the ABS warning lamp starts flashing.
8. After starting the self-diagnosis mode, remove the jumper from the test contact and «masses». This will start the memory cleaning mode.
9. Close the test contact to ground at least three times in a row within 12.5 seconds. The duration of each circuit must be at least one second.
10. After the last opening of the jumper, the contents of the memory are erased, the self-diagnosis mode is completed, the ABS warning lamp goes out.
11. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
Fault code table
Note 1: There is no switch to emergency mode because the ABS control unit and actuator stop working and the brakes act as normal without the ABS system. However, after the supply voltage is restored, the ABS warning lamp goes out and ABS operation becomes possible.
Note 2: When a fault code is displayed «Power supply voltage abnormal», the control unit and the ABS actuator are in order, there is no need to replace them.
Note 3: Sometimes this code is displayed due to a faulty «masses» ABS motor (loosening). In this case, check the circuit «masses» control unit and ABS drive.
Note 4: After the elimination of the short circuit. in the sensor circuit, the ABS warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. According to the self-diagnosis procedure, drive for 1 minute at a speed of approx. 30 km/h. Then make sure the ABS warning light goes out.
Caution: Do not disassemble the ABS control unit and actuator assembly.
