It should be remembered that when towing a trailer on the main units and systems of the car (engine, transmission, steering, braking system) additional loads apply. In addition, when towing a trailer, the vehicle's tendency to yaw increases due to road irregularities, crosswind gusts, and aerodynamic disturbances from passing trucks. Adjust your driving style and choose a safe driving speed according to the vehicle condition and traffic conditions.
Precautionary measures
- Purchasing a trailer hitch (hook, safety chain, etc) and other accessories, make sure they are suitable for your vehicle and trailer. You can find all the necessary equipment at your NISSAN dealer, who will advise you in detail on all matters relating to towing a trailer.
- Do not exceed the permitted total weight of the trailer (including trailer weight and cargo weight), set for the drawbar used.
- Before setting off, check that the lights and alarms on the trailer are working properly.
- Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.
- Avoid sharp turns and lane changes.
- Practice riding at a moderate speed.
- Always place wheel chocks under the wheels of the vehicle and trailer when parking a road train. If the trailer is equipped with a parking brake, apply it.
- It is not recommended to park the road train on steep slopes.
- Follow the trailer manufacturer's instructions and recommendations.
- When loading a trailer, make sure that heavy loads are located above the trailer axle.
- The maximum permitted vertical load on the trailer hitch must not be exceeded.
Attention: To avoid overheating of the engine while towing a trailer, pay close attention to the coolant temperature warning light.
Tire pressure
Before towing a trailer, inflate the tires to the cold tire pressure as indicated on the tire label (at full load indicated on the plate).
Trailer brake system
Always place wheel chocks under the wheels of the vehicle and trailer when parking a road train. Always apply the trailer parking brake (for those modifications where it is). It is not recommended to park the road train on steep slopes.
Trailer reminder system on the hitch (if available)
The electrical system of the car registers the appearance of an additional electrical load when the lighting devices of the towed trailer and direction indicators are turned on. As a result, the tone of the sound accompaniment of the turn indicators changes.
Hitch Installation
To comply with NISSAN requirements, the following conditions must be met when installing a trailer tow hitch:
- Maximum permissible vertical load on the drawbar: 490 N (50 kg)
- The places and method of fastening the towing device on the vehicle must correspond to those shown in the figure.
Ball joint rear overhang: (A) 175 mm.
Follow all instructions and recommendations of the trailer hitch manufacturer during installation and operation.
