1. Check the car starts moving from the "D ₁ " position
1. Press the upshift button (the "O/D OFF" indicator does not light).
2. Move the selector lever to position "D".
3. Accelerate the car by pressing the accelerator pedal halfway.

Using the CONSULT-II tester
Read the gear range.
Does the car move from the "D ₁ " position?
Yes - Proceed to step 2.
No - Continue road test
2. Check the upshift and downshift (from "D ₃ " to "D ₁ " to "D ₂ ")
1. Accelerate the car to 80 km/h as shown in the figure.

2. Release the accelerator pedal, then quickly press it all the way down.
Using the CONSULT-II tester
Read the gear range and throttle opening angle.
Does the automatic transmission shift from "D ₄ " to "D ₂ " as soon as you press the accelerator pedal all the way down?
Yes - Proceed to step 3.
No - Continue road test.
3. Check the upshift (from "D ₂ " to "D ₃ ")
Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and check whether the automatic transmission shifts from "D ₂ " to "D ₃ " at a given speed.

Does the automatic transmission switch from "D ₂ " to "D ₃ " at a given speed?
Yes - Proceed to step 4.
No - Continue road test.
4. Check upshifting (from "D ₃ " to "D ₄ ") and engine braking
Release the accelerator pedal after shifting from "D ₂ " to "D ₃ ".
