2. Using the adjusting screw, set the engine idle speed in accordance with regulatory requirements (see tables of sizes and adjustments at the end of the guide).
3. Check the duration of the closed state of the breaker contacts (see tables of sizes and adjustments at the end of the guide), if necessary, adjust - to reduce the duration, increase the gap in the contacts, and vice versa. To perform this check, the engine must be stopped and the cover, rotor and distributor rev limiter screen removed.
4. Upon completion of the adjustment of the duration of the closed state of the contacts of the breaker, move the transmission to the position "N" or "R" (AT) and begin to vary the engine speed from idle to 2000 per minute, watching the meter indicator. If there are noticeable changes in the gauge readings, check the distributor shaft for excessive lateral play, assess the wear of the cam, and check the condition of the breaker contacts. Replace defective components.
Note. After completing the replacement procedures and / or adjusting the breaker contacts, it is imperative to check the ignition timing setting. When adjusting the ignition timing, there is no need to disconnect the vacuum hoses of the distributor.
5. To check the ignition timing, start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature and leave it running at idling speed, which must comply with regulatory requirements (see tables of sizes and adjustments at the end of the guide).
Note. On models with AT, the installation check and adjustment of the ignition timing must be carried out with the "D" gear selector lever. In this case, in no case should the throttle valve be allowed to open, as the car may move away. Do not forget to check the reliability of the cocking of the parking brake.
6. Turning on the stroboscope, make sure that the mark on the crankshaft pulley is opposite the 10°mark on the scale on the timing cover.
7. If necessary, correct the installation by loosening the mounting bolt and turning the distributor accordingly.
8. After completing the adjustment, tighten the distributor mounting bolt and, if necessary, correct the engine idle speed. On models with AT, make sure that the transmission is moved back to the position "R".
9. To check the correct functioning of the ignition timing adjustment mechanism:
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor;
- Gradually increase the engine speed, observing the displacement of the distribution marks illuminated by the strobe; if the corrector is functioning properly, the ignition timing should shift towards the advance as the speed increases, otherwise remove the distributor cap and turn the slider in the direction of normal rotation - when released, it should return to its original position;
- While keeping the engine speed at approximately 2000 rpm, carefully connect the vacuum hose to the distributor. With the correct functioning of the vacuum corrector, the ignition timing should move in the direction of advance. Replace components if necessary.
10. Stop the engine and disconnect the diagnostic equipment.
