Checking and adjusting the level
1. Check for automatic transmission fluid leaks.
2. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
3. Start the engine.
4. Move the automatic transmission selector lever through all the positions of the transmission modes.
5. Set the selector lever to position «R».
6. Make sure that the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid is about 40°C.
Attention. The automatic transmission fluid is tested at a temperature of about 40°C.
Note.
- Start the engine and allow the automatic transmission fluid to warm up at idle (the air conditioner must be turned off).
- Automatic transmission fluid warms up to a temperature of 30°C approximately five minutes after starting the engine. It is necessary to carry out the verification procedure at this stage.
- The automatic transmission fluid warms up to a temperature of 40°C in approximately ten minutes from the moment the engine is started. The procedure must be done quickly:
- Connect the CONSULT-III to the data bus connector.
- Choose "DATA MONITOR" («Data display»).
- Read value "ATF TEMP SE1" («ATF temperature sensor 1»).
7. Remove the drain plug.
8. Remove the O-ring from the drain plug.
9. Check the automatic transmission fluid level:
If automatic transmission fluid leaks out of the drain hole, allow it to drain until the trickle turns into drops (A).
If automatic transmission fluid does not flow out of the drain hole, adjust the level as follows:
Remove the battery.
Remove the electronic engine control unit with bracket assembly.
Disconnect the turbo speed sensor connector (A).
Arrow points to bolt
Remove the turbine speed sensor (1).
Remove the O-ring from the turbine speed sensor.
Pour in automatic transmission fluid (ATF) into the mounting hole of the turbine speed sensor.
Note.
- If the amount of missing fluid is known in advance, add 0.5 liters of automatic transmission fluid to the missing amount and pour the resulting volume of fluid into the turbine speed sensor mounting hole.
- If the automatic transmission fluid has been completely drained, add 0.5 liters of automatic transmission fluid to the fill volume and pour the resulting amount of fluid into the turbine speed sensor mounting hole.
Attention.
- Use genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF automatic transmission fluid. The use of other types of fluid will adversely affect the performance of the automatic transmission and may cause it to fail, which is not covered by the warranty.
- Do not mix different types of automatic transmission fluid.
- When filling automatic transmission fluid, be careful not to burn yourself on hot parts of the exhaust system.
- Install the O-ring on the turbine speed sensor.
Attention.
- Do not reuse the O-ring.
- Apply automatic transmission fluid to the O-ring.
- Install the turbine speed sensor (1).
Arrow points to bolt
Connect the turbo speed sensor wire connector (A).
Install the ECM with bracket assembly.
Install the battery.
Check the automatic transmission fluid level again.
10. Install the O-ring on the drain plug.
Attention.
- Do not reuse the O-ring.
- Apply automatic transmission fluid to the O-ring.
11. Install drain plug.
Check of a condition of a working liquid of an automatic transmission
Replacement
1. Warm up the gearbox to operating temperature.
2. Stop the engine.
3. Remove the drain plug (1).
4. Remove the automatic transmission fluid level tube (A).
5. Drain the automatic transmission fluid through the drain hole.
6. To establish a tube of level of a working liquid of an automatic transmission.
7. Reinstall drain plug with new gasket.
8. Fill the gearbox with fresh fluid as follows:
Install the turbine speed sensor (1).
Arrow points to bolt
Connect the turbo speed sensor wire connector (A).
Install the ECM with bracket assembly.
Install the battery.
9. To check up level of working liquid of an automatic transmission.
10. Repeat steps 3 to 9 three times.
Note. Since the automatic transmission fluid cannot be completely drained at one time, steps 3 to 9 must be repeated three times.
Attention.
- Do not reuse the O-ring; after the third set of steps 3 to 9, replace it with a new one.
- Apply automatic transmission fluid to the O-ring.
11. Install drain plug.
