Measurement
Install the bearing into the connecting rod and cap, and tighten the connecting rod bolts to the correct torque. Using an inside gauge, measure the inside diameter of the connecting rod bearing.
(Oil clearance) = (Connecting rod bearing inner diameter) - (Outer diameter of connecting rod journal)
- Standard clearance: 0.020-0.045mm
- Limit clearance: 0.065 mm
If the clearance cannot be adjusted within the required limits, select the connecting rod bearing based on the outer diameter of the big end of the connecting rod and the outer diameter of the crankshaft crankpin so that the lubrication clearance is correct (see further section «Connecting rod bearing selection procedure»).
Measurement with a calibrated plastic wire
Wipe off dirt and oil from the crankshaft journals and bearing surfaces.
Cut the wire into pieces slightly shorter than the width of the bearings, lay them in the direction of the axis of the crankshaft, but not on the oil holes.
Tighten the main bearing bolts to the correct torque.
Attention: Do not rotate the crankshaft.
Remove the covers and bearings and measure the width of the pieces of wire with the indicator on its packaging.
Note: If the measured value exceeds the norm, take the same measures as indicated in par. «Measurement».
