Measurement
Install the main bearings into the cylinder block and caps. Measure the inside diameter of the main bearings by tightening the bearing cap bolts to the specified torque.
(Lubrication gap) = (Inner diameter of main bearing) - (Outside diameter of crankshaft main journal)
- Standard: 0.004-0.022 mm
- Limit: 0.05 mm
If the measured values exceed the specified ones, select the main bearings, using the inner diameter of the main bearing housings and the outer diameter of the crankshaft main journals so that the lubrication gap complies with the standard (see the section below "Procedure for selecting main bearings").
Measuring with calibrated plastic wire
Wipe off dirt and oil from the crankshaft main journals and bearing surfaces.
Cut the wire into pieces slightly shorter than the width of the bearings, place them in the direction of the crankshaft axis, but not on the lubrication holes.
Tighten the main bearing bolts to the specified torque.
Caution: Do not turn the crankshaft.

Remove the caps and bearings and measure the width of the wire pieces using the scale on the wire package.

Note: If the measured value exceeds the norm, take the same measures as specified in the "Measurement" section.
