Table of contents: Removal ↓ Installation ↓
Attention! See safety precautions in subsection 6.3.1 before starting work.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air filter housing (see subsection 6.3.1.2).
3. Squeeze the retaining clips and disconnect the wiring connectors from the throttle potentiometer, auxiliary air valve, air flow sensor and injector wires.
4. Also disconnect the connector for the heating element installed between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
5. Release the pressure from the fuel system (see subsection 6.3.1.7).
6. Then release the mounting clamps and disconnect the fuel supply hose and return hose from the throttle body.
7. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle cam on the throttle body, then loosen the lock nut and adjusting nut and remove the cable housing from the mounting bracket.
8. On models with automatic transmission, also disconnect the downshift cable.
9. Loosen the clamps, then disconnect the coolant hoses from the rear of the throttle body and plug the hose openings. Do this quickly to minimize coolant loss.
10. Note or mark the installation position of all vacuum and vent hoses so that they can be properly connected when installing the throttle body, then release the clamps (where are they installed) and disconnect the hoses from the throttle body.
11. Loosen and remove the mounting bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold and remove the throttle body from the vehicle.
12. Remove the heating element.
13. Plug the intake manifold opening with a clean cloth to prevent dirt or foreign objects from getting into it.
14. If necessary, after removing the throttle body, loosen the mounting screws and separate the upper and lower sections.
15. Remove the gasket installed between them.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
2. When installing, please pay attention to the following points.
3. If necessary, check that the mating surfaces of the upper and lower throttle body sections are clean and dry, then install a new gasket and assemble the sections, tightening the mounting screws securely.
4. Before installation, check that the mating surfaces of the throttle body, intake manifold and heating element are clean and smooth.
5. Install the throttle body and heater element onto the intake manifold.
6. Tighten all mounting bolts diagonally to the specified Stage 1 torque, then tighten them to the specified Stage 2 torque.
7. Check that all hoses are correctly installed and, if necessary, secure them with clamps.
8. After installation is complete, adjust the accelerator cable (see subsection 6.3.1.3).
9. On models with automatic transmission, adjust the low range cable (see subsection 9.2.4).
