Removal
Rear Brake Assembly Components
1 - Drum; 2/3 - Lower/upper tension spring; 4 - Expansion bar; 5 - Retainer; 6 - Block; 7 - Wheel cylinder; 8 - Bleed nipple; 9 - Protective cap; 10 - Piston; 11 - Support cup; 12 - Spring; 13 - Brake shield; 14 - Shoe guide
1. Jack up the car and remove the corresponding wheel.
2. With the parking brake released, remove the brake drum (see section Removal and installation the rear wheel hub assembly).
3. While simultaneously pressing and rotating the locks, pull out the shoe guides and remove the shoe assembly.
Note: Be careful not to damage the wheel cylinder protective caps.
4. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
5. If necessary, disconnect the tension springs and the expansion bar from the pads.
6. To remove the wheel cylinder, disconnect the brake pipe from it and unscrew its mounting bolts.
Installation
1. If removed, install the wheel cylinder.
2. Apply Nissan KRF0000005 grease to the sliding surfaces of the brake shoes and to the surfaces of the brake shield shown in the illustration.
3. Shorten the expansion bar by rotating its tip.
Note: The expansion bar on the left/right side of the vehicle has left/right threads respectively.
4. Connect the expansion bar and tension springs to the shoes. Connect the parking brake cable.
5. Install the brake pad assembly, being careful not to damage the wheel cylinder protective caps, and ensure that the components are installed correctly.

6. Install the brake drum (see section Removal and installation the rear wheel hub assembly).
7. Adjust the parking brake. If the wheel cylinder was removed, bleed the brake system (see section Replacing brake fluid and bleeding the brake system).
