Note. The water pump cannot be disassembled and repaired. Replace the pump assembly if necessary.
Water pump installation components
1 - Water pump pulley; 2 - Water pump; 3 - O-ring; 4 - Suction tube; 5 - heater hose; 6 - Lower radiator hose; 7 - Water hose
1. Empty the cooling system (see Section Coolant replacement).
2. Remove the multi-ribbed belt (see chapter Engine) and water pump pulley.
Note. To facilitate removal of the pulley, release its fasteners before removing the belt.
3. Insert a block of wood into the pump and knock out the pump. Remove the pump gasket.
Note. When the pump is removed, the coolant remaining in the engine will drain out.
4. To remove the suction tube, remove the air cleaner assembly, radiator and heater hoses, move the electrical wiring away from the tube, unscrew the bolts and pull the tube towards the rear of the engine.
5. Make sure that the pump and its blades are free of dirt and rust. The pump shaft must rotate smoothly by hand and have no play. Replace pump if necessary.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following points.
7. Install new sealing ring into the groove at the end of the suction tube.
8. Apply a bead of sealant to the pump flange as illustrated.
9. At least 30 minutes after installing the water pump, charge the cooling system and check for leaks (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
