Externally, the catalyst looks like a silencer, but performs the function of reducing the emission of harmful substances.
Warning! If some volume of unburnt fuel + air mixture flows into the catalyst, it overheats; there is a risk of fire. To avoid this hazard and other damage, the safety regulations must be observed.
Do not drive with extremely little fuel. If the fuel tank is empty, there may be misfiring and the catalyst will be heavily stressed.
Do not let the engine idle for more than 10 minutes at fast idle speed, and at normal idle speed - no more than 20 minutes.
The performance of your engine should be in order. Functional malfunctions in the ignition system or in the fuel system can lead to very high heating of the catalyst.
Do not start the engine by towing your machine.
During the period when the car is in motion, in no case do not turn off the ignition.
In the place where there is something flammable, such as grass, leaves, paper and rags, do not start the engine idling.
While the engine is running, people should not be near the exhaust pipe; the same applies to flammable objects. The exhaust gas has a very high temperature.
Not recommended «drive» engine at full strength.
Use only unleaded gasoline.
If the engine is difficult to start or stalls frequently, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible. To ensure the perfect functioning of the catalyst and the entire exhaust gas treatment system, the vehicle must be checked periodically in accordance with the company's maintenance plan «Nissan» and carry out maintenance.
